Comtemplating purchase of a Smart cat. What are your first impressions of it? i will be looking for a commuter car to replace my Honda Insight some time next year.

I really like my Smart car. I have plenty of space for what I take on my commute -- you forget that you're in a little car once you're inside it. You will definitely sit up taller than in a Honda Insight. I replaced a Subaru Forester with my Smart and sit up higher than I did in that...

Thanks for the feed-back. I will be following your MPG post for a while as that is a major consideration as I have over a 100 mile commute round trip. I think one would be higher in just about any car than a Insight, but I saw a Smart car yesterday and it appeared like a small SUV in height.

I've been playing with the brand of gas I buy -- some people were claiming "better" gas mileage with the brand names like Shell and Exxon. However, when I tried that, my MPG seemed to go down. My 2 fill-ups on 9/6 and 9/12 were from Costco gas and this last fill-up was better MPG mainly due to the 50% highway miles. On some web-sites of other Smart owners, they are getting 45 - 50 MPG on all highway miles. I haven't gone on any roadtrips of that length yet so I'll keep the site updated...

I can see the Smart car becoming something like a "cult" following. The car is soo darn cute and Eco friendly. I am a very frugal person so the gas mileage is important to me in addition to the socially responsible for the low pollution. I have tried some hypermiling techniques and they have provided astronomical results with my Insight and helped with my Avanti also. Good luck with this car and Thanks again for the feedback.
