My first car ever. Probably didn't break it in properly because I am new at this. Any tips on getting better gas mileage would be appreciated.

Hey. Your odometer only reads 288 miles, so you're still inside your 600 mile break-in period. Most people are reporting mileage increases around 2k miles or so. Be a little patient with it.

On the flip side you're already beating the EPA estimated 29mpg, so congrats!

Honda's recommended break-in for your Civic is to just be really, really gentle with it for 600 miles. Most modern cars don't need the crazy things that older (much older) cars did. Varying your speed all the time, changing the oil immediately, etc. aren't needed these days.

Speaking of oil, don't fall for the crap you're liable to get from someone about changing it right away. Honda recommends you wait until the car tells you it needs oil, including the first oil change. There are rumors that Honda puts some additive or special oil in them at the factory for during the break-in period. I've never heard that substantiated by an official Honda site, though.
