We added EPA MPG estimates for 2008 and adjusted previous year's data

MPG estimates for 2008 vehicles have been added to our database.

These estimates are calculated differently from estimates for previous years - EPA is now accounting for air conditioning usage, colder outside temperatures, faster speeds and acceleration (which all kill your MPG).

We adjusted MPG estimates for previous years so now we can compare apples and apples vs. comparing apples and oranges in tools like MPG Changes Year By Year(see left-side MPG Tools menu).

We still show old sticker MPG estimates below new values in MPG Ratings lookup tool.

Thanks and be safe on the road!

Thanks for updating these.  So basically you're now matching the way the EPA does the fueleconomy.gov site, right?  If I look up pre-2008 model vehicles, it shows their 2008 equivalent ratings, and NOT the numbers on the original window stickers.

69Firebird400, you are right, we show equivalent values now for pre-2008 models so they are comparable with values for 2008 models.
Original sticker numbers still can be found here as "old" values
_no_links_mpgtune.com/miles-per-gallon-mpg-ratings-lookup.php

If that would be useful for our users - we can try recalculation 2008 values into old values and showing them this way too. Let us know!

Re: We added EPA MPG estimates for 2008 and adjusted previous year's data

Nah, I think converting 2008 values into old values would just add to the confusion that the change has caused for consumers.

In the end, though, I think the new 2008 ratings will improve consumer satisfaction because they have a better chance of reaching the published ratings.

I drove a 2007 Suburban about 1300 miles over the past two days, and it is rated at 14/19, and although 98% of the driving was on the highway at 75 mph, it got about 16.3 mpg overall.

Dear henry, it looks like cost per gallon on a few fill-ups for your vehicle is entered incorrectly, I've sent you email with more details on this.
